Monday, June 1, 7:00 p.m.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center
(Meet in Lobby at 7 p.m.)
On June 1, a resolution in support of marriage equality in North Carolina will be presented to the Charlotte City Council. This same resolution has already been approved by Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Durham. We want you and your friends, family and colleagues to be there to support the resolution as it is presented. Join us at the City Council’s Citizens’ Forum to show your support for the resolution. Wear a red shirt or other item of clothing to show your support for the resolution. You may bring signs, but please make sure they are NO BIGGER than a regular sheet of paper (8.5″ x 11″).

Protest for Marriage Equality
Friday, May 29, 5:30 p.m.
Rally at Marshall Park (5:30 p.m.)
March through Uptown (6:15 p.m.)
On Tuesday, May 25, the California Supreme Court upheld Prop. 8, the anti-LGBTQI marriage amendment proposed by California voters. Although the Court kept 18,000 marriages by same-sex couples legal, the decision to allow the revision to stand as an amendment is disappointing. Now is the time to show your disapproval, and help raise awareness on marriage equality and other equality issues for LGBTQI people.
Join us for a non-violent protest rally at Marshall Park at 5:30 p.m., then march with us through Uptown to the Government Center.
Let us know you’ll be there: Visit the Facebook event page and RSVP.

Light a Candle for Love Feb. 14, 2009, 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Corner of Trade & Tryon Streets, Uptown
On Valentine’s Day, join LGBTQI and straight citizens in Uptown Charlotte to show your support for equality and the rights of all people to love and be loved without regard to sexual orientation and gender-identity. Community members will speak with passers-by and pass out glow sticks symbolic of the light and love that lives in each and every person (because, of course, downtown is far too windy for candles).

Join activist and Truth Wins Out executive director Wayne Besen for an entertaining and engaging, but serious, look into the harm caused by so-called “ex-gay” and “reparative” therapies. Besen, author of “Anything But Straight,” has spent years researching the effects of ex-gay ministries like Exodus International. He became notorious for his outing of Exodus spokesperson John Paulk, who Besen photographed leaving a gay bar in Washington, D.C. Doors open at 7 p.m., program starts at 7:30 p.m. Beer, wine, soda, water and other refreshments will be available. Suggested donation for admission: $5. (Proceeds will benefit Truth Wins Out and the Lesbian & Gay Community Center of Charlotte).

NOTE: Those wishing to attend the protest are highly encouraged (but not required) to attend the Feb. 19 presentation with Wayne Besen, after which CRANE will hold a short non-violence training in preparation for the protest. This non-violent, silent protest will be conducted with full non-violence of thought, word and deed. Participants will be asked to sign a statement the morning of the protest indicating they understand the protest will be conducted in non-violence and silence. Those traveling from outside of Charlotte are welcome to join us Saturday. Out-of-town participants will receive a short review of non-violence and its purpose when joining the protest.
